It is not a bug, add a compass on the map with an anvil. It is an exclusive MCPE feature!

If Minecraft is installed on the external card turn to internal card, MCPE is not supported on external card.
It is not a bug. Maps are different from PC version. If you add a compass in the opened map on the anvil will show where you are. If you add 8 papers in the opened map on the anvil will zoom the map.
