I also had this issue, except that my worlds were still intact. Other than that, everything else was deleted.
It is fixed in the latest 0.17.0 alpha build 2.

Just found out this problem. Tried placing water on emerald ore and it wouldn't place. Same thing happens when I try playing water on cracked stone bricks.
All you have to do is delete the com.mojang folder and open the app again. Make sure to backup your Minecraft worlds. No uninstalling of the game needed.

Wow! I didn't know that coal blocks were flammable in Mc!
Trapped chests do work, but they produce a very weak signal that goes 1 block. To strengthen the signal, place a repeater right next to it and you will be able to make a bigger trap.
Game seems to have fixed itself... I'm no longer experiencing this issue.
