It happens in single and multi, the world isn’t laggy so I think it’s just the button, haven’t tested realms.

Hmm... tried in creative and no lag spike, however this is in a plain superflat. Switch 1.5.0.14
Can reproduce, Switch 1.5.0.14
Also experiencing this. 1.16.100, Switch. Reloading the world seems to bring them back.
