I'm not too sure if this is intentional or not in 1.14.x but in the older versions of Minecraft for Xbox you could enchant blocks, and those blocks couldn't show the glint, as they really haven't changed the rendering code in a while, this might be the result.
What platform is you sister playing on.
There is no reason to remove the bottoms of these blocks as in anarchy servers these blocks are used as bases and removal of the bottoms can lead to base leaking
