did you tell it the co-ordinates you want it to take you to?
I think it has to be a full block to block the beam, and I don't think that the chorus plant acts as a full block.
these are the blocks that would take you to the new style of end. They are a full block with texture on all 6 sides. See updated photo.

I thought it might be an AI thing so that it wont destroy the cage itself, because if it flew through the cage it would delete the blocks.
still I'm not sure its supposed to do that. "bouncing" was just a description of the visual effect.
