I didn't teleport; I flew to that location in Creative. But I don't have the expertise to say they don't have the same underlying cause.
I discovered the bug while working with the new ore blocks; overworld and nether gold ore look very similar now, so I wanted to check whether their smelting behavior was still different. Neither of them would smelt, so I tested other materials, fuels, and furnace types.
