Have you tryed creating another world, restarting the game, restarting the computer, update your GPU drivers or something like this?
if this doesn't solve your issue please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report (minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt) to this ticket so moderators or expert users can help you better

Intel broken drivers? If it keeps crashing I think you have not fixed them so:
Solution 1) Install newest drivers from intel official website
Solution 2) If you can only install drivers from PC constructor (so you can't try solution 1), try uninstall the Intel drivers from control panel (it worked for me, no drivers are better than broken ones)

Anyway, I don't think that the game mechanic is supposed to allow a player to hit himself in the face or in the back and fly up, theorically you have to fly up only if you hit yourself on torso, that I think is impossible to do

Ok, I tryed this also in 15w45a and now I think it's really a bug, also in a very fast speed you can not get more than 2,5 hearts damage, resulting in minimum 5 hits before being killed = suicide for see death message or you will probably never die for this reason
Do you have Acer laptop? If not try to install latest Intel driver after unistalling old ones:

Go in Programs and functionality (i don't know the right english name) from control panel, search Intel Graphics Drivers, uninstall them and restart

It sounds strange, but the drivers provided by acer were only version 10.XXX and below so I uninstalled them, without reinstalling any others (I was not able because the intel driver installer was saying that my SO was not supported) and now snapshots works properly
