When a sound hasn't been heard past 1.5 seconds (when the subtitle start to fading out), and then you produce that sound again, instead of reusing previous subtitle, the game will create a brand new one, which cause them to briefly appear twice, since the subtitle is not fully disappear yet, i would expect the game to reusing it, just like in Java Edition.
Step to reproduce:
Method 1: With command blocks
Give yourself a repeating command blocks
Put these inside the command blocks input: /playsound game.player.attack.strong @a
Change redstone to always active, and then set delay in ticks to 31
Exit command blocks screen
Observe
Method 2: Manual
Punch on air by pressing left click, a subtitle will be produced
Wait until the subtitles start fading out, then press left click again
Observe
Expected results:
The game use the previous subtitle, since it still not fully disappear yet.
Observed results:
The game create a brand new subtitle, cause them to briefly appear twice.
