I can't create maps with paper and a compass on an anvil to show my pinpoint.

I made a map, when I combined the map with a compass on an anvil, nothing comes up, I can't get a pinpoint to show up on my map (item) because of this. And this seems to only happen with the Windows 10 edition, as I saw regular Minecraft PE on Android gameplay and it worked perfectly fine, can you please fix this if you can? Thanks.
