Mobs don’t spawn while raid bar appears

Check caves and stuff+follow their "harrrr"noises - failing that, install XRay texture pack to track them (last resort if you dont wanna cheat) - I'm in a ravine base and its so annoying that they hide in the caves which are hard to get to - now I just take a bucket of lava and pour it on the captain if I dont wanna fight (doesn't register as a player kill and raid ends) lol
