If you look closely, you will notice that the sun simply disappears at the beginning of the rain and suddenly reappears when the rain ends.
Reproduction:
Use the /weather command to force rain or wait for the rain and observe the sun.
Observed result:
The sun suddenly disappears.
Expected result:
The sun fades out slowly until it is no longer visible.

i can't reproduce this on 1.21.40.21 Preview, the sun smoothly fade out when raining, and fade in when no longer raining.
Can confirm. Although this may not be reproducible in the preview, it isn't guaranteed for said behavior to carry over to the main release.
Cannot reproduce on 1.21.30, the sun smoothly fade in and out too, this might be fixed somewhere in the 1.21.30 Preview.
