Currently, the Launcher doesn't do anything when trying to open Minecraft. It worked earlier in the day but that evening it stopped working. Just bounces once in the Dock.
I am on an older Mac/OS and am aware that it's no longer supported and cannot run MC1.18+. However, according to the Minecraft Help Center (help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4420326353933-Minecraft-Java-Edition-Versions-and-MacOS-): "If you’re unable to update your Mac, you will still be able to play older versions of Minecraft (1.17.1 and earlier). However, you will not be able to play Java 1.18 and beyond. " I'd still like to play older versions. But can't if the Launcher is no longer supported.
I'm attaching the launcher_log.

As of today, I have this same launcher problem on my mac. Launcher does nothing after "bootstrap" update. Pasted below is text from Terminal generated during crash:

Hi there!
Could you answer few questions regarding this issue, it will help with the investigation:
Have you tried reinstalling the Launcher? Restart the PC afterwards.
Have you tried deleting (coping elsewhere beforehand) .minecraft folder?
Does the Launcher show up on Activity Monitor?
Have you tried Force quit the launcher?
This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.
I have not reinstalled the Launcher. I’ve searched on how to do so but have not found any clear answers and ways to do so on a Mac. If there is an easy way to do so I’d be happy to do so given the proper method.
I have not deleted the .minecraft folder. Do you mean the actual minecraft folder? Do you mean re-install?
The Launcher does not show up in Activity Monitor
I have not tried to force quit the Launcher since there’s nothing to force quit
Here is a copy of the Console log when I try to open Minecraft:
4/21/22 11:34:08.301 AM launcher[918]: Claimed it found a path: /Applications/Minecraft.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher (/Applications/Minecraft.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher) 4096

This bug just happened today upon yet another launcher update. Yesterday it worked fine.
I think the clue to the problem is: "Unable to load nib file: NativeUpdater, exiting". Terminal doesn't record this specific action when the launcher is healthy.
I have tried quitting/restarting launcher and rebooting computer ...but no luck solving the issue. I have two computers now with same problem.
I have the same problem. I tried restarting my computer and deleting and redownloading the Minecraft launcher but it still will not open.
I downloaded and reinstalled the Minecraft app but no change. I tried a third party Launcher and that works. Though it looks like all the Achievements are reset. I don't know where or how those are saved.
Sorry to hear this is happening!
Would you attach your nativeUpdaterLog.txt file from your .minecraft folder to this bug so we can review it?
I'll attach my nativeUpdaterLog.txt file. I don't know if any of my attempts to get MC working would have an impact on what it reports. Hopefully others will upload theirs as well.
Have had the same problem, yesterday, the Launcher would open just fine, but today it just refused to. I don't know what to do to fix it.
Lots of other reports coming in for this (or similar) launcher issue: MCL-15564, 21235, 21275. I am running Mac OS 10.11.6 but I see other platforms and OS's affected. Please at least revert the update that caused this. Thank you.
Thank you for attaching your log! anyone else running into this specific mac issue, it would be useful to get a log file to get a sense of consistency.
And the other issues linked in the item above are unrelated to this. And in fact some have been logged much earlier than this one.

Same issue here on a 2012 Mac Book Pro, (macOS Sierra 10.12.6), unable to open Minecraft launcher and failure to load the NativeUpdater. Yesterday was fine, but reloading Minecraft Launcher killed it.
Uninstalled, and reinstalled, deleted, still nothing. Tried opening from launcher.exec, but still had problems. Updated Java, and still ain't working. Launcher doesn't stay in activity monitor long enough for it to be forced stopped.
Rolling back launcher or providing static pre-update launcher would be great.
I have been having this issue all week. I am running OS X Sierra 10.12.6 (I know its out of date). Whatever the latest update and launcher is.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled, reset the computer. Bubkiss. I have been having trouble downloading now since I've done it quite a few times. But I've been surviving off of an older download 4/22/2022. I have a current one downloaded today.
Today I deleted everything Minecraft/Mojang and reinstalled. Worked like a charm after the download to play. Logged off to walk me dog. Clicked the application, the bootstrap update popped up, disappeared and the main launch/news window does not load. Does a bounce or two and does nothing when I try to open it again.
I can give you what I can for now. I can yeet everything again later and give fresh data. I hope this helps...

Update, I did just Yeet minecraft from my computer. Let me know if you want fresh logs from new download/install to issue.
I just downloaded a fresh copy of Minecraft (from minecraft.net). It updated bootstrap and then crashed, same as old copy. The logs look to be exactly the same as ones uploaded earlier today ...so I won't upload new ones. Rebooting didn't help either.
Problem persists. We now have 3 computers with same issue. We are locked out. New logs today:
Initial install to log in screen of launcher
Download April 23, 2022 11:36 AM CDT
Workaround:
1. Download a fresh copy from Minecraft.net and install (keep prior copy, new one is noted with (2).
2. Go offline
3. Launch (new) Minecraft app offline (it will offer to let you play offline or retry)
4. Go back online, wait a bit and then click play, play offline or retry ...depending if it recognizes you are online.
5. Play Minecraft!
- launching the app offline bypasses the auto update process. Thankfully, the current version has not been updated with the apparent bug. I grabbed a few copies in case I accidentally update.
Dear gods it took 30-35 minutes to download from the launcher to play window 1.18.2

Using
(official dmg from January 2022) and launching it with no internet connection (to avoid getting updated in the process) seems to be a functioning workaround for now.

Hello , I'm running el capitain (osx 10.11) and am getting exactly the same problem.
| 2minutegame |
[Info: 2022-04-27 13:03:45.487983: NetQueue.cpp(229)] NetQueue: Done.
|
I've been able to run 1.18.2 for while on my older OS. (I last played issue free on April 19,2022) Its just until this recent launcher update that I experienced issues.
Update to my information provided on other related tickets (MCL-21365):
I've noticed that it will run completely fine after a fresh reinstall. (Version 1.18.2) But the moment I try to reopen the game, the launcher will crash before it even opens. I've been noticing the same errors in the logs as posted in previous comments.
I first thought it was me migrating old saves after reinstall that was breaking it.
I'm running MacOS 10.12.6
Problem still persists, Olli's temporary solution of not opening the launcher with internet works, however there are some issues with ghost Minecraft applications running and requiring force quit via activity monitor.
I am having the same problem. The log when I try to open minecraft with the launcher through terminal gives me the "
Unable to load nib file: NativeUpdater, exiting". Not sure what to do. I am MacOS too, it was working yesterday for 1.18.
I'm on a Mac OS (version 10.12.6), and I have been experiencing the same issue. The launcher will not open. I was able to play 1.17.1 for one night but then it didn't work the next day. It appears that it will not launch. Old versions worked for one night once it launched. New versions won't work at all.
Here is the log
Workaround : Hi I've been struggling with getting the launcher to run again after the bootstrap updated on osx 10.11. Make a copy of the Minecraft package in the applications folder for your own peace of mind. Drill down to the Resources folder of the Minecraft Updater package (you will need to right click the Minecraft application and select show package contents) . The NativeUpdater.nib file that doesn't appear to work is 11KB in size, the original is 12KB. If you have a backup of the last working version of this file, rename the 11KB file, paste in the old file. Go back a level to the MacOS folder and double click the nativeUpdater terminal program. I found that this time it updated the launcher again. I went back to the Resources folder and re-instated the 11KB nib file. Double clicked the Minecraft application from the applications folder and it launched without a problem this time round. I hope this helps.
Still not fixed. Is it safe to assume that contrary to this Help Center article we will not "still be able to play older versions of Minecraft (1.17.1 and earlier)"?
I would also like to know if Mojang is working on a fix or not.
I am having the same problem. If I delete the app and the Application Support (Minecraft) folder, I can reinstall and the launcher will work. However, if I quit the Launcher it will never open again. It doesn't matter if I use 1.18, 1.17, 1.16, or 1.15, it will never open again and all data is lost.
My temporary solution is installed 1.15.2 and when I play it, I never quit. I just leave it open in the background.
Please, Mojang, fix this problem you created. I don't need the launcher, just let me play the old software on its own.
Thank you.
I didn't see this issue fixed int he 1.19 update. Is there a way to uninstall the bootstrap updater? Otherwise I will just keep on logging in off network.
Can confirm no fix with 1.19. To be honest its not the game itself but the launcher. We probably won't see fixes with new game releases, only when they update or release a new launcher.
You don't even need to start the game to have the issues happen. Just opening and closing the launcher creates/replicates the issue. (I tried it)
Also its unrelated to the 32bit EOL. I have a i7 processor which is 64bit.
Yes, the problem is the Launcher. If you quit it, it will never open again.
JoMoJoJo, are you saying that if I turn off my wifi and start the game, I won't have a problem?
I have the same problem, but am unable to reinstall the launcher.
@thetravhi yes it works. I just tried it. If you open the launcher with the wifi off and than turn it back on the moment the window starts to open, it will work. I did it twice now. About to do it a third time to make sure the first two weren't flukes.
mine4114 you have to drag the application icon into the trash bin to delete the old launcher. Or go to applications folder and delete it
I found a workaround that doesn't require going offline.
Head to Application Support > minecraft > launcher and look for a hidden file called .version (if hidden files are not visible, press cmd + shift + . to show them).
Open .version with TextEdit and change the number shown to the most recent version of launcher-core-ado. In my case, this meant changing the number from 2.2.12147 to 2.3.240, though anyone reading this in the future will probably need a different number.
You can determine that number by checking launcher_log.txt after failing to open the launcher. Look for the error, and then check a couple lines above it for a message from LauncherConfiguration.cpp that says "We should change launcher-core-ado from version number x to version number y." Version number y in that line is what you need to write into your .version file.
This stops the launcher from checking for updates, and now it runs properly every time. I guess it also leaves you running an un-updated launcher, but that doesn't seem to be causing any problems for me. The game launches just fine. I imagine you'll have to edit .version again once there's a new update.
Also, here are my launcher logs from before and after manually changing the version number. The first one looks about the same as everyone else's, failing to update launcher-core-ado and then shutting down.
Can confirm, I also have this issue. I'm running OS X El Capitan on a mid 2009 Macbook Pro.
Hey! I have been having this issue for quite a while now. To be fair, I thought it was just me who was having this issue. Luckily, I'm most likely getting a new laptop before my school starts, but I would still like to play as I'm very impatient. I tried deleting every minecraft file I had, and re-downloading the launcher via the website. There was a thing I noticed though every time I tried downloading it. Whenever I'd download, the launcher would say "updating" every time. I would be able to open the launcher ONCE, then if I close it, then reopen it, it wouldn't work. I'm on a mac OS version 10.11.6. I'm also not a tech guy but I noticed that in my files, even when I downloaded it today, the date it says that I downloaded it says "March 24, 2022, 7:04 AM."
thaledeganites, i need a bit of help. I read your recent message saying I need to change this number to that number in .versions. Well, i checked my launcher_log.txt and the number I need is 2.3.280 but, I already changed the number, saved the textedit file, tried re opening the launcher and it still closed. So i re checked the launcher log, and now it said "We should change launcher core-ado from 2.3.280 to 2.3.280" so now I am SO CONFUSED. what should i do?
Nevermind! I have accomplished the work. Lets go! Thanks so much!
This bug has been incorrectly flagged as Resolved. This glitch still occurs and has not been fixed, I'm sure that most people haven't seen this page so they won't know the work-around for the bug.
Re-opening the case ticket.
Hate to see that the launcher is still broken. Is there a timeline when we can see an new launcher update, or a more reliable fix for users having this issue?
Navin Gidwani how did you overcome that issue? My workaround isn't working for me anymore!
thaledeganites, I'm not too sure. Yesterday, once I closed the minecraft launcher, the glitch happened again where it wouldn't open, so I just re-did the same steps and it worked once again!
Mine does a similer thing where it will open for a split second and then just close (I have a Windows 10, which is up to date).
Hi!
Please uninstall Launcher from your Mac, and download the latest DMG file from minecraft.net and install the Launcher again.
After that, does this issue still occur for anybody?

Can confirm the new Launcher does still not work. It seems like the updater is failing, I remember seeing a command that allows minecraft to skip the updater and just run but I can't find it anymore. here's the error I get on my machine running OSX Mavericks:

harryfornasier15: Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? The problem was in the bootstrap and so if you reinstall it should be fixed/go away. Please confirm once you've tried this.
Just gave that another go now, still complains about the same issue, 'NSColor labelColor'.The only workaround i've found using version 2.2.12147 that was posted earlier on this page. However to get it to work you also need https proxy like squid, but after that I was able to login just fine. Was there any sort of security change to the newest updater, for example I think OS X mavericks only supports TLS 1.2 and not 1.3
I've had a read around and I think the problem is that NSColor labelColor was first introduced in OS X yosemite and so does not exist in Mavericks. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26851306/trouble-matching-the-vibrant-background-of-a-yosemite-nsmenuitem-containing-a-cu
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appkit/nscolor/1534657-labelcolor
https://github.com/racket/racket/issues/2858
This last link says that if labelcolor is changed to blackcolor it worked. I can try changing it myself but i'm not sure where the file which references labelcolor is.
Does this issue still occur to anybody?
Hi, yes this is still a problem with the version that Mojang provides for OS X Mavericks. But there is a workaround. You need try downloading this older version of the launcher:
Maybe this version of the launcher can be provided as an alternative launcher for older macs? as it still seems to work fine.
Can anyone who ran into this issue confirm whether it is still happening?
My name is Paul and ill try helping you, Here are a couple things that could work! 1. Restart the PC. 2. Press Windows then search Minecraft (The Minecraft Launcher should show up) then click app settings then press repair. 3. If nothing works reinstall MC it should work then.
