The crash occurs when debug profiling is started. Any entity other than the player in the world causes the crash. The crash does not occur if there are no entities in the loaded chunks, however the game will crash as soon as an entity is loaded.
To reproduce: Load a world with entities in it and start debug profiling.
The cause seems not to be VBOs.
