Extreme rendering glitching

Randomly I will see through the ground and any close by non NPC object. I will see the lava in the caves below the ground and the mobs. I can't see where I am going at all. If I move around enough the blocks that are supposed to be in the foreground are rendered. I am also experiencing the torch bug. I cannot take a screenshot of the issue because the screen shot is always rendered correctly for some reason.
