Sugar cane becomes completely opaque at a distance

With recent snapshot changes, sugar cane now uses mipmapping, which causes it to look entirely opaue when the player is far enough from it. This is unlike other cross-shaped plants, which more or less keep their shape even as their detail goes down.

To reproduce, place sugar cane and view it from far away.

Presumably fixable by changing the used texture’s mipmapping settings, though I’m not familiar enough with them myself to know how this would be done.

Isn't this the point of mipmappings?

Thank you for your report!
After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.

Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.
