Pink petals have stems. But petals don't have stems, at least not ones they're attached to that stick into the ground. The pink petal model (and item texture) makes them look like tiny growing flowers instead of flower petals lying on the ground.

My point is that there should be no stems. Petals that fall to the ground from flowers on a tree don't have stems.
You can see the stems in block form too, just not easily.
