Daylightcycle screwing up firetick

Turned daylight cycle off in new world (large biomes - swampland), toggled between firetick being on and off a few times, found that in neither Creative, Survival or Adventure fire does not visibly spread to flammable blocks regardless of firetick setting, but flammable blocks do disappear. Enabled daylight cycle and flammable blocks burned in some instances but not in others.

To recreate:
1. Disable daylight cycle
2. Enable firetick
3. Set down flammable block
4. Light fire near it
5. Block will disappear
6. Enable daylight cycle
7. Retry 3 & 4
8. Some blocks will burn away, others will disappear.

Unable to reproduce. With doFireTick off, the fire neither spreads next to inflammable blocks nor burns inflammable blocks. With doFireTick on, the fire spreads next to inflammable blocks and burns them.

Is your daylightcycle off and set to a specific time? I tried various various times and changed difficulty between peaceful and hard with the same results.

Edit: I generated two new worlds and the burning worked fine with daylightcycle on / off. Perhaps this is specific to my map? I cant imagine why, I havent done anything remarkable.

Cannot reproduce either.
It is working as expected with a freshly created world and with my 1.4.x test world
