[MC-255694] Chunks randomly reset updating from 1.16 to 1.17?

So I was flying through an area I havent been to in a while but the point is I have been there before as shown by the filled out map in the attached screenshot.

Yet features like lava falls are apparently being placed?

What could be the cause of this?

Edit: apparently the chunks reset somehow, my banners are gone?? Is this an existing bug from updating?

Do you have backups before this happened? If so please upload them (or, use something like Google Drive if it is too big)

Yea, and I went back to them and the chunks were fine. Like I said in the description it seems like the chunks reset somehow?

I dont see how that would help, Like I said the chunks seem to have just reset. Plus There would be no point now as the chunks are already regenerated in 1.17. You can probably close this but I was just curious if this could this be explained by an existing bug?

Could you please provide the backup from before you updated? Aka, a version where the chunks were not reset yet? That way we can try to reproduce the issue.
