Pressing shift and letting go of shift will not update the "shifting status." This means that pressing the shift button and clicking will cause text to be selected, instead of the text cursor moving with no text being selected.
Pressing left or right (without holding shift) while selecting text will cause the cursor to move and deselect the text, instead of just deselecting the text.

Make sure this is only an issue in your game, and not other software such as notepad. If it is, this is a hardware issue.
