Snowfall changed to rain by blocks overhead

In a Tagia biome, I built a watchtower with a platform made of cobblestone slabs at the top. At the ground beneath the platform, rather than being sheltered from the snow, rain falls instead. Just outside the area in the shadow of the platform, a blizzard is going on.

It looks like you put the platform just above your head, which I suspect does not leave enough room for rainfall. Try raising it like 30 blocks above the ground.

Also, it looks like you used whole blocks. I used the half slabs, which may or may not be a contributing factor.

Can still not reproduce.

Is there a way to force it to start raining, or do I just have to wait for it to happen randomly?

If you're in Creative, type /weather rain.

Ok, it looks like the platform was just a coincidence, and the real issue was just some odd placement of a beach biome protruding into the taiga biome.
