No chickens spawn in any biome

I've tried to google this to find out if this is expected, and I'm coming up with nothing. I'm using the snapshot in a world generated with seed 2796116245604257904, and I've gone walking for over a kilometer, and there are just no chickens anywhere at all.

This just makes me wonder if you don't have a bug in in the snapshot that prevents chickens from spawning.

Use

/say hi @e[type=chicken,c=5]
/say hi @e[type=chicken,c=5]

and tell us the feedback you get.

It says:
Selector '@e[type=chicken,c=5]' found nothing

I tried it with cow instead, and I got back something that seems to indicate that there are 5 cows. Only 5 seems odd, so does this only work for loaded chunks?

I ran some distance (probably a few hundred blocks) from where I had been standing and changed c to 100. For cows, it indicated that there were 15 cows and "found nothing" for chickens.

Then I ran back to my base and got a count of 13 cows and "found nothing" again for chickens.

Your spawn chunks may be full of friendly animals clogging up the mob cap.
