blank screen randomly occurs

Death on a strider will cause the player to respawn on the strider and not spawnpoint regardless of whether the strider dies or not and only if immediate respawn is active

While I was playing and building my staircases in my underground base (don't know if that helps) and noticed that the stairs had this shadowing on them and block and light updates didn't help.
